Today (Sunday, 18th. March 2007) at Monton Methodist Church, twenty Turkish Muslims joined us for morning worship (which also happened to be communion). They are deeply committed to inter-faith work through the Education and Dialogue Charity. They brought with them for every member of the congregation a portion of 'Noah's Pudding", also known as "asure". This is a delicacy made with beans, barley, chickpeas, fruit and walnuts walnuts, and is traditionally shared with family and friends. During the service our Muslim friends shared in the Peace and later came to the communion area to receive a blessing.
After the service we moved to the hall to eat "Noah's Pudding" and Savas Konur, the leader of the group spoke about their commitment to inter-faith dialogue and showed us a moving power-point presentation of the things that we do share within our two faiths. Our time together ended with a reading and prayer from both Christian and Muslim traditions.
